Chihung Yang was born in Taiwan, China in 1947. He has lived in New York, USA since 1970s. In addition to his identification of an artist, Yang published an article on mainland China and Taiwan influential art magazine Lion Art, explaining the current development of Western art, which has a considerable impact on the thought of Chinese art; and he has been regarding as one of the leading and influential Chinese abstract painters, after French-Chinese masters Zao Wou-Ki and Chu Teh-Chun, who bring Eastern lyrical abstract painting to the rest of the world.

As a lover of literature and music, he created his works with strong cultural and poetic atmosphere, mysterious oriental charm, melodious and philosophical beauty. The pictures are full of Chinese calligraphy and ink painting techniques, as well as enthusiastic Western thinking, which are gradually developed into freehand brushwork. The plain but thought-provoking painting conveys tranquil, mysterious, imposing, and romantic atmosphere. Through the discovery of the inherent beauty of plants and nature, he displays a more profound understanding of human life in his recent works. His brush strokes extend the abstract representation, and build a sense of space; simple picture composition inspires vast imagination. His works present subtle texture and flavor, mixed with real or virtual musical rhyme.
